“Learn to be thankful for what you already have, while you pursue all that you want”
Gratitude is a wonderful thing, it’s not being happy, it’s not a feeling of overwhelming joy, all it is is a feeling of appreciation of what you already have. The simplest things, the hot water than runs out of the tap, the roof that sits over your head, the food in the fridge, the smart phone your reading this off, the job no matter how much you don’t like it, the clothes we place around our bodies each day, the access to medicine, the freedom of speech, the chance to vote, the ability to read and write, as a woman access to sanitary products.....so so so much more. As we move through life if we learn to see things through the eyes of gratitude we learn to feel at peace with what is, and from then we can move forward to what will be. Yoga teaches us to be in the present moment, and from there to find a peace that frees up the future. So often I hear people say “when this happens I’ll be happy” “when I get that job all will be ok” “when I find my love I will be alright” But if we constantly pin our hopes of peace on the future we will never find pure happiness as that has to come from within, and the place to start that search is with gratitude. What are you grateful for today?
